Climate
The Nile Basin has a high diversity in climate with greatly varied precipitation. The average summer temperatures are around 86°F (30°C) with winter temperatures ranging between 41 and 50°F ( 5 - 10°C). The average annual rainfall as well as the reliability of precipitation decreases going north, with the area around the Nile delta receiving under 300 millimeters of rainfall. The precipitation varies temporally as well. Most of the basin goes through one rainy season in the summer. In sub-basins of the Eastern Nile and Main Nile, like in the city Wau, there is a single rain peak from June to October with little or no rainfall in the other months. In northern Uganda and South Sudan, as in Juba, rainfall is fairly evenly distributed with a single peak from April to October. The Nile Equatorial Lakes Plateau, on the other hand, experiences a twin peak distribution with high rainfall during March through May and September through November.
